Before opening the play text itself, consider what the play might be about just by examining the word 'Cuba'.

• Use the grid below to note down all the things you know (or even just think you know) about Cuba. What sort of things do you assume about the place? You might find it helpful to work in pairs.

• Look at this tourist information website for Cuba www.cuba.com. Does it suggest anything else for your list? Add your new ideas to the boxes.
  
  
• Now write a short statement saying what you think this play might be all about. Do you think it will be a comedy, a tragedy, a documentary or what? Say why you think this.

• Check out what other people in your group have put down. Discuss what you think the play might be about as a whole group.
